SEWANEE, Tenn. - Covenant continued its nonconference schedule with a battle against Principia. In what was the first of two games this weekend at Sewanee, the Scots fell just short against the Panthers.

FIRST QUARTER:
- Karis McIntosh and Amanda Neff each knocked down a 3-pointer early on to give Covenant a 6-2 lead.Â
- Breezy Savage, Lucy Benson, and Rilee Smith hit triples to extend the Scots lead to 15-7.Â
- With a layup with 1:44 remaining, Savage hit Covenant's first non-3-pointer of the game.Â
- Megan Rouse got an inside bucket to fall right before the first-quarter buzzer to put the Scots ahead 22-14 after one quarter.Â
 SECOND QUARTER:
- Covenant began the second quarter on a 10-0 run across four minutes.
- Madison Blevins hit a triple which put the Scots in front 35-16 with 4:35 remaining.Â
- Rouse had Covenant's final four points of the quarter as it led 39-22 at the intermission.Â
 THIRD QUARTER:
- Rouse made a layup while being fouled to put the Scots ahead 46-28.Â
- The Panthers battled back with a 12-0 run to get within six points with 3:13 remaining in the period.Â
- Each team traded a bucket in the final couple of minutes and Ella Grace Squires hit one free throw as Covenant went into the final quarter up 49-42.
 FOURTH QUARTER:
- The Scots didn't hit their first shot until McIntosh made a triple when there was 6:22 left in the game, but they still led by seven points.Â
- McIntosh got a jumper to fall to keep Covenant ahead 56-49.
- The Panthers cut the lead to two points before Rouse got a layup to gol after getting an offensive rebound with 1:44 remaining.Â
- Principia went one for two on a couple of free throws, but got the offensive rebound and hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 59 with 49 seconds left.Â
- On the Scots' final possession, they could not get an inside shot to fall with nine seconds left, giving the Panthers a chance to take the last shot.
- Principia drove down the court and got a foul call, making one of two free throws with one second remaining to win the game.Â
GAME NOTES:Â
- Covenant drops to 0-1 all-time against Principia.Â
- Rouse led the Scots offensively with a season-high 14 points and eight rebounds.Â
- McIntosh and Savage were also in double-figures with 12 points and 10 points.Â
- Covenant was 40.7% (22-54) from the field and 37.5% (9-24) from three while Principia was 34.9% (22-63) from the field and 26.3% (5-19) from three.Â
- Each team struggled at the free-throw line with Covenant shooting 37.5% (6-16) and Principia shooting 52.4% (11-21).
- The Scots were outrebounded 47-38.
