LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - For Covenant's home opener it took on Miss. University for Women in the second-ever meeting between the two schools. After a back-and-forth first half, Covenant imposed its will in the second half to win by 20 points.

FIRST HALF:
- Covenant's first triple of the evening came from Luke Crowden to give his team a 6-5 lead.
- Crowden drilled another one from behind the arc that pushed the Scots ahead 12-9 with 14:15 remaining.
- The Owls rode a 10-2 run across almost eight minutes to take a 19-14 lead.
- Inside buckets from Jonathan Gernatt and Walker Mathis put the Scots back within one point at 19-18.
- Covenant hit three triples in the final two minutes, including one right before the halftime buzzer by David Compere to take a 31-27 lead into the locker room.
SECOND HALF:
- Gernatt and Witt each had made layups for the Scots in the opening minutes as they led 35-30 at the under-16 media timeout.
- Covenant continued to find success inside as points in the paint from Jesse Kinard and Logan Pearlman moved Covenant ahead by seven points with 14:23 remaining.
- The Scots rode an 8-0 run midway through the half to gain some separation from the Owls at 52-38.
- Gernatt, Compare, and Crowden kept the offensive attack on for Covenant with each of them scoring a basket as the Scots led 64-42.
- Compare scored his final points of the game by way of a 3-pointer with 2:26 left to put Covenant ahead 69-44.
- In the final minute of the game, freshman Zak Thomas hit a triple for the Scots that sent Barnes into a frenzy.
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant moves to 2-0 all-time against Miss. University for Women.
- Compare posted a new career high in points with 21 on 9-of-12 shooting.
- Gernatt had 17 points and led Covenant with eight rebounds.
- Kinard filled up his stat sheet with 10 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
- Covenant was 46% (29-63) from the field while MUW was 32.3% (20-62).
- The Scots won the rebound battle 40-34.
- Covenant outscored MUW 41-25 in the second half.
