DECATUR, Ga. - Covenant Volleyball continued its season with a tri-match against Huntingdon and Agnes Scott. The Scots won both games convincingly, not losing a set in either match to move to 11-0 in CCS play.
Game 1 Final: Covenant 3, Huntingdon 0
Records: Covenant (20-1, 10-0 CCS), Huntingdon (7-15, 6-4 CCS)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Covenant raced out to a 9-5 lead with the help of kills from Kyla Bailey, Kelsey Carman, and Cali Sandhoff.
- On Emma Kalbfleisch's service rotation, Covenant went on a 6-0 scoring run to go up 23-10.
- The set ended 25-12 in Covenant's favor with a kill from Bailey assisted by Rachel Bartlett.
- The Scots scored six of the first seven points in set two.
- Covenant kept up its strong play and took a 20-8 lead after a 4-0 scoring run.
- Bartlett got the final kill of the set as Covenant won 25-13.
- The third set was more competitive as the Scots and the Hawks were tied at 10.
- The close battle continued throughout the set as Covenant held a narrow 21-20 advantage.
- Three consecutive attack errors from Huntingdon and a service ace from Sandhoff put the Scots one point away from victory.
- Bartlett assisted a kill from Haerer with the game on the line as Covenant won set three 25-23 and swept the match.
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant moves to 24-8 all time against Huntingdon.
- Haerer led the Scots in kills with 14 and in total blocks with seven.
- Bartlett dished out 30 assists and had eight digs.
- Sarah Jennings had a team-high 12 digs.
Game 2 Final: Covenant 3, Agnes Scott 0
Records: Covenant (21-1, 11-0 CCS), Agnes Scott (2-17, 2-8 CCS)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Jennings was the first server for the Scots and they scored the first 10 points of the game.
- Covenant kept the strong play going as a kill from Reagan Keener and an attack error from Agnes Scott put it in front 17-4.
- Bailey had back-to-back kills to end the set at 25-10.
- An early 8-0 run with Bartlett serving pushed Covenant ahead 10-2 in set two.
- Haerer had another kill and the Scots led 18-6.
- Bartlett assisted kills for the last five points of the set for the Scots as they took set two 25-9.
- Anissa Snyder served for the Scots as they went on a 7-0 scoring run and led 14-4 in set three.
- Agnes Scott didn't give up and got back to within six points at 21-15.
- The deficit was too much to overcome though as a kill from Haerer and an attack error clinched the set 25-20 and the match.
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant moves to 28-0 all-time against Agnes Scott.
- Bailey had 12 kills to lead the Scots.
- Jennings had 13 digs and five service aces, which were both team highs.
- Bartlett tallied 25 assists and had six digs which surpassed her of 1,000 for her career.
UP NEXT: The Scots will host Emory on Friday night for Pink Night. The match is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
