Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Covenant Women's Basketball Takes Hawks at Home

JANUARY 21– The women's basketball team moved up their record in the conference this past week after a thrilling win over conference opponent Huntingdon after dropping a game on the road the previous Tuesday to second-seeded LaGrange.

Against LaGrange, the Panthers held the lead for the entirety of the contest. LaGrange had three players hit double-digit scoring, Zyhia Johnson leading the Panthers with 16 points.

Though the Scots could not cut the Panthers' lead, Covenant was resilient in rebounding, out-rebounding their opponent 39-20.

Forward Megan Rouse recorded 10 rebounds, the game-high.

Junior guard Karis McIntosh also notched a game-high 17 points in the loss.

However, after the mid-week road game, the Scots were back in action on Friday night at home where they would go on to defeat the Huntingdon Hawks. Covenant Women's Basketball was hungry for a conference win and had the means to do it.

After the outstanding rebounding performance on Tuesday, the Scots out-rebounded their opponent for the second game in a row–– Covenant tallying 42 total boards while Huntingdon recorded 26.

Megan Rouse once again coming out on top with 12 rebounds. Rouse was just a basket shy from grabbing a double-double on the night as she added eight points in the win over the Hawks. Abby Witt

The Scots and the Hawks battled on the court for the entire 40 minutes of regulation, coming close to forcing the game into overtime. With 19 lead changes and seven ties throughout the contest, each team had to be on the top of their game.

Four players for the Hawks hit double-digit scoring compared to Covenant's two. However, the high-scorers for the Scots both nearly doubled their opponent's team-high.

Cosette Kirsch and Karis McIntosh went for a combined 45 of Covenant's 66 points. Kirsch recording a career-high 24 points while McIntosh tallied 21 points for the Scots.

Though Huntingdon took the lead from the Scots halfway into the fourth quarter, Covenant overcame the Hawks' pressure and regained the lead once and for all with just two minutes remaining. The 66-65 win put the Scots at 2-3 record within conference, which would be set to 2-4 the next day after a devastating loss to Belhaven.

The Scots could not match the Blazers scoring on Saturday, being out-scored 78-49. Covenant was unable to carry the previous night's momentum into the contest.

Cosette Kirsch was the high-scorer for the Scots with 13 points. Megan Rouse added in 8 points of her own, while Ruthie Moore chipped in seven points and seven boards.
