Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Max Out Barnes Women's Basketball Recap

Max Out Barnes, one of Covenant's most cherished athletic traditions.

In the first home game for the Scots since their return to campus following winter break, the student body of Covenant showed up en masse to cheer on their classmates on the court. Both the men's and women's basketball teams for Covenant took on the visiting Berea Mountaineers for a pair of conference matchups.

Beginning with the women's game at 5:00 PM, the fans were in attendance early and in abundance. Trying to put an end to a four-game losing streak, the Scots had their work cut out for them with the Mountaineers entering at a record of 13-1 so far this season.

Despite Covenant scoring the first points of the game on a three-point basket from junior guard Karis McIntosh, the Scots had fallen behind at the end of the first quarter 20-9. McIntosh ended the contest with a total of nine points, three assists, and a pair of rebounds.

The Scots matched up much better in the second quarter, ensuring that Berea's lead would not grow past the 11-point margin by halftime. Entering the halftime break at a score of 33-22, Covenant was not out of the game yet with an entire half left to play in order to narrow the scoring differential.

However, despite a double-double performance from senior guard Ruthie Moore, who finished the game with 11 points and 11 rebounds, the Scots could not catch the scoring run they needed in order to close the gap. The final buzzer sounded showing a score 70-57 in favor of the Mountaineers.

After the game, we got the chance to ask a few of the players questions pertaining to their view on the season and the team's chemistry. Here is what sophomore guard Breezy Savage had to say:

Breezy Savage
Q: Breezy, it is clear through your effort and play on the court that you serve as one of the emotional sparks within the team. How have you all as a team worked to maintain your focus and energy throughout the course of a lengthy, taxing season?

A: I would say that we all have the same goals this year. We're committed to focus on taking things day by day and devoting our focus and energy on what each day holds. We really focused during preseason on the importance of pushing each other on & off the court. Having the mindset that we are doing it for each other and not ourselves is what has really helped keep our team close!

UP NEXT
Following the loss, the women's basketball team for Covenant moves to 4-9 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. The Scots will return to action next at LaGrange on January 17, where they will take on the hosting Panthers in another 5:00 PM matchup.
