LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The No. 1 West seeded Covenant men's tennis team will open the USA South Tournament on Thursday by facing No. 4 East seed Methodist in the first round at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga.

Match time is set for 3 p.m.

The winner moves on to face either No. 2 East seed Averett or No. 3 West seed LaGrange on Friday at 2 p.m. in the semifinals. The championship is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. The entire tournament takes place at the Rome Tennis Center.

TOURNAMENT NOTES

• Covenant (12-5, 6-0 USA South) is the No. 1 West seed for the second straight year, and the fourth time since 2017. 
• The Scots and Methodist meet for a third time in a USA South Tournament. Methodist won each of the first two meetings, including 5-4 victory over the Scots in the 2018 tournament.
• Covenant sailed through the USA South West Division en route to a second straight undefeated season (6-0). The Scots dropped just one point in conference matches and went a perfect 36-0 in singles play against league foes.
• The Scots showed their depth throughout the season as three players have 10 singles wins and three more collected nine wins during the regular season. Gill Dunn, Cameron Cortman, and Chris Morton all tied for the team-lead with 10 singles wins. Austin Dreslinski went 9-3, including six wins at the top flight, while Ethan Gibson and Solomon Crouch also had nine wins apiece. Ben Luke accumulated five wins at the top spot and takes an 8-5 record into the tournament.
• In doubles, Crouch and Dreslinski teamed up for eight wins at the top flight, while Dunn and Gibson had seven wins at No. 2. Camden Lashley leads the team with 12 doubles wins.
• Methodist (10-9, 4-3 USA South) enters the tournament having lost two straight and going 5-5 in the last 10 contests.
• The Monarchs feature Jordan Theron, currently the No. 7-ranked singles player in the Atlantic South region by the ITA. Theron, a sophomore, is a team-best 20-5 on the year in singles action.
