Harvey Walks It Off Against Bob Jones

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- An RBI single from Josh Harvey in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the Covenant baseball team to a walk-off, 5-4, victory over Bob Jones on Friday afternoon.

The win improves Covenant to 16-17 overall.

The Scots took a quick 2-0 lead in the first thanks to two hits and an error. Kenny Mills doubled and McKaleb Harlemon singled during the inning.

After a scoreless second inning for both squads, a solo home run from Mills in the bottom of the third extended Covenant's lead to three (3-0).

The visiting Bruins cut the lead to one, though, in the fourth with two runs on three hits. Conley Burk produced a two-run single to highlight the inning for Bob Jones (7-25).

The score would stay that way until the eighth inning. In the top of the eighth, the Bruins used three hits to add two more runs and take a 4-3 lead. A double from Chad Bayne knotted the score at three, and the go-ahead run came thanks to a single from Isaiah Brandt, which made it 4-3.

The Scots were not to go quietly though, as a sacrifice fly off the bat of Joseph Ridenour in the bottom of the eighth tied the game back up, 4-4.

After holding the Bruins scoreless in their half of the ninth, Covenant had one more chance in the bottom of the inning to walk it off.

Mills walked to leadoff the inning and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Zeke Gilbert followed with an infield single, advancing Mills to third. Harvey ended the game with a drive to the left-center field gap that scored Mills to give the Scots the walk-off win.

Mills finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run. Harvey was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, while Ridenour went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Bryce Bollinger started on the mound for the Scots, pitching seven innings and striking out three. Jackson Rau (3-0) picked up the win after pitching two innings of relief and recording three strikeouts.

Burk, Bayne, and Brandt all had one hit apiece. Henry Wallach pitched eight innings for the Bruins with three earned runs and three strikeouts. Daniel Williams (1-2) earned the loss.
