Game Recap: Volleyball |

Kalbfleisch Leads All-Conference, Volleyball Heads to Semis

Covenant Volleyball wrapped up regular season last week with two conference sweeps over Belhaven and Wesleyan. The Scots also picked up a win outside of conference in a four-set match with the Sewanee Tigers.

Against the Tigers, Outside Hitter Kyla Bailey led the Scots into victory with 20 kills and 16 digs. This performance earned Bailey Player of the Week for the last week of regular season play. Other notable performances included Grace Logterman's 12 kills, six blocks, and three aces for the Scots. Summer Johnson-Northcutt also chipped in nine kills. Rachel Bartlett tallied 44 assists and Anna Baldwin notched 20 digs.

Northcutt also led in kills the following weekend against Belhaven and was second in kills against Wesleyan. Taylor Caldwell hit a personal career-high 11 kills to lead offensively over the Wolves.

This past Tuesday, November 1, CCS Tournament began for volleyball. In order to host the tournament, Covenant had to defeat the winner of No. 9 Agnes Scott and No. 8 Wesleyan. After sweeping Wesleyan the previous weekend, the Scots were able to pull out another sweep in order to advance to the semifinals and host the rest of the tournament. Semifinals will be played at 4:00 PM and 6:30 PM Friday, November 4th.

As regular season came to a close, the Collegiate Conference of the South named four Scots to All-Conference, with two major award winners.

Emma Kalbfliesch with 251 kills this season and 608 kills overall was named Co-Player of the Year alongside Maryville's Meredith Bonee.

Rachel Bartlett and Grace Logterman were named All-Conference First Team with Kalbfleisch, while Kyla Bailey was named All-Conference Second Team.

The Covenant Volleyball squad was coached by first-year head coach, Stephanie Wharton. After winning regular season, Coach Stephanie Wharton was named the CCS Coach of the Year, an amazing honor.

The Scots will take on No. 4 Berea for semifinals at home for the second year in a row. Historically, the Scots have overtaken Berea both in conference and in tournament. The Scots are hoping to reign victorious once more in order to advance to the CCS Championship which will be hosted in their home gym, Barnes, at 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 5th, regardless of the outcome.
