Cross Country Finishes Third in CCS Championships, Bowles Leads All-Conference

This past weekend, Men and Women's Cross Country traveled to Montgomery, Alabama to compete in the Collegiate Conference of the South Championship Meet. Both the men and the women placed third overall. The women were third of eight, while the men were third of six.

When asked about the team's performance, Head Coach Eli Kaczinski said, "The Scots showed out today! There is a lot to be proud of after our performances at the CCS Cross Country Championships this weekend."

Josiah Mellott finished fourth, the highest placing Scot on both the men and women's side. After one last push in order to pull away from the competition in the final 600 meters, Mellott's final time was 26:44.4. Freshman Daniel Bowles was second to finish for the Scots, but the first freshman overall to cross the finish line. This earned Bowles Rookie of the Year, a fantastic honor that was awarded after a well-run rookie season. Josiah Mellott was selected for First Team, while Bowles was selected for Second Team All-Conference.

On the women's side of things, Lydia Moore and Lydia Dorman finished back-to-back once again. Moore ran a time of 25:19.1 while Dorman ran a time of 25:28.1, earning them 6th and 7th place, respectively. Moore was selected for First Team All-Conference after several steady performances throughout the season. Lydia Dorman, Jocelyn Gartman, and Brooke McDonald were awarded Second Team All-Conference. Covenant had four women to place in the top 12, with the only other team accomplishing this being the champions of the meet.

The Cross Country team ran an impressive course during the Championship Meet. The Scots are now preparing to take their top runners to the NCAA Division III South Region Meet next Saturday, November 12th.
