LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Trips to Texas and Florida highlight a 22-match schedule for the Covenant men's tennis team in 2022.

Under 10th-year head coach John Hirte, the Scots are slated to play a program-record 22 matches this season. The year begins on Feb. 12 with home matches against Centre and Johnson at the Covenant Tennis Complex.

The Scots are scheduled to take two extensive road trips during the season. The first one is at the end of February as the Scots head to Texas to face Texas Lutheran (Feb. 24), Mary Hardin-Baylor (Feb. 25), and East Texas Baptist (Feb. 26). It will be the first time the program has played matches in the state of Texas.

The other highlighted trip is to Orlando, Fla., from March 5-9. The Scots will face a plethora of Division III schools in Ohio Wesleyan (March 5), Wheaton (March 7), Saint John's (March 7), Hampden-Sydney (March 8), Otterbein (March 8), and Trine (March 9). Times and match locations will be announced later, but all will take place in the Orlando area.

Covenant will host non-conference matches with Birmingham Southern (Feb. 18), Berry (March 24), and Sewanee (April 13). 

The Scots will begin their defense of the USA South West Division when conference play opens on March 19 at home against Brevard. Covenant also has home USA South matches with Huntingdon (April 6) and LaGrange (April 15).

The USA South Tournament is set to start on April 23.

SCHEDULE NOTES:

• Covenant last played 20-plus regular season matches in 2017 (21). 
• The Scots will venture into Texas for the first time in program history. The matches against all three opponents (Texas Lutheran, Mary Hardin-Baylor, East Texas Baptist) will be the first meetings against those teams.
• Covenant will also face Ohio Wesleyan, Saint John's, Hampden-Sydney, Otterbein, and Trine for the first time.
• The Scots are 29-5 against the USA South in regular season matches since 2017.
