NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Covenant men's soccer team was bested by Christopher Newport on the road Saturday afternoon, 2-0.
The Captains only allowed the Scots to get off three total shots for the entire match, compared with their total of nine. All three shots for Covenant came in the second half, with one coming from Austin Berry and two from Noah Carrico.
Both of Christopher Newport's goals came within the first half off of seven total shots. The first goal came in the 31st minute. Assisted by Jason LaViola, Lincoln Kickbush headed one past Covenant goalie, Henry Hooks, to give his team the 1-0 lead.
The second goal was another header from Davis Pillow (assisted by Trevor Smith and Ryan Kiely) with four seconds left to play in the first period (2-0).
The second half was pretty even, as Christopher Newport only got off two shots. Though two of Covenant's three shots in the period were shots on goal, they were ultimately not able to score, giving the host Captains the 2-0 victory.
Cory Hogge, Kickbush, and Pillow led Christopher Newport with two shots apiece.
Hooks played the entirety of the match and recorded one save on three shots on goal. Cole Irvin got the start in the goal for the Captains and earned one save in his 79 minutes played. Tomi Prizzia played the remaining 11 minutes and added one save as well.
The Scots fall to 0-2-1, while the Captains are now 1-0-0.
