LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- The Covenant women's soccer team got a big 1-0 victory over conference foe Maryville on Wednesday evening. The win marks Covenant's first victory over Maryville since 2016.
The Scots are on a hot streak, having now won three of their last four matches, and sit at 2-0 in USA South competition.
The match remained close up until the end of play. Both teams totaled five shots on goal for the match, even though the visiting Scots outshot Covenant 15 to eight.
The teams remained in a deadlock, as both defenses refused to let the other gain any ground. That is, until the 80th minute.
In the first few seconds of the 80th minute, Kailey Burrell was able to break free from her defender and get one over the head of Maryville goalie, Sophie Turner, giving Covenant the 1-0 lead. The goal brings Burrell's season total to nine, which is second overall in the USA South.
From there, the Covenant defense remained strong, shutting down the visiting Scots and sealing their 1-0 victory.
Covenant was led by Burrell who had five shots, four shots on goal, and the winning score. Leah Marr tallied two shots, one of which was on goal. Emma Riggs also recorded one shot.
Lucy Sandhoff remained a force to be reckoned with in the goal for the host Scots, tallying five saves on Maryville's five shots on goal.
Maryville was led by Sierra Lee, who had four shots. Hailey Cartt had three shots, while Bailey Sipos recorded two shots, both of which were on goal. Turner played the entirety of the game, earning four saves and allowing one goal.
Covenant improves to 5-4-1 overall, while Maryville falls to 4-5-2 (1-1 USAS).

Covenant will face Asbury at home this Saturday, October 2. Kick-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
