CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- In a battle between two strong region foes, the Covenant men's soccer team and Emory played to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday night at Chattanooga Christian School.
The match was moved to Chattanooga Christian after heavy rains from Ida over the last two days.
The defensive battle saw Emory (0-0-1) hold a 21-11 shot advantage, but Covenant (0-0-1) keeper
Henry Hooks and the rest of the Covenant back line withstood the visiting Eagles' attack to keep the match scoreless.
Hooks made nine saves on the night as he played all 110 minutes to pick up the shutout.
Covenant had a pair of shots in the overtime sessions, but
Austin Berry's attempt in the 106th minute was blocked and
Aaron Riggs' shot in the 94th minute missed high.Â
Late in the second half, the Scots put two shots on target but were turned away both times by Emory keeper Jack Hudson.
Griffin Felton's attempt was handled by Hudson in the 88th minute, just seconds after a
Thomas Drake shot was also saved by Hudson.
Mercer Stout and
Cale McLarnon led Covenant with two shots each.
Trey Rielly led Emory with four shots, while Hudson also went the distance at the net and made five saves.
