DEMOREST, Ga. -- Kyla Bailey had 24 kills between two matches and the Covenant volleyball took two matches at Piedmont on Saturday inside Cave Arena. The Scots took the first match in three sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-19) before winning match two in four sets (25-15, 19-25, 25-19, 25-12).

The first match counted for USA South standings as Covenant moved to 7-4 overall and 4-2 in league play.

MATCH ONE: Covenant 3, Piedmont 0

Covenant hit a season-best .307 and Kyla Bailey had a season-high 13 kills as the Scots took the USA South-counting match in three sets (25-16, 25-17, 25-19).

Bailey had 13 kills while hitting .308 to go along with five total blocks. Emma Kalbfleisch had 11 kills and produced a .625 hitting to go with her four blocks and Rachel Bartlett totaled 36 assists, seven digs, and two kills. 

Covenant used an 8-1 run in the first set, capped by a Summer Johnson ace, to take an 18-10 lead and would not look back. The Scots led 24-14 later in the set and a kill from Johnson gave Covenant a 1-0 match lead.

The Scots tallied 18 kills and hit .394 in the opening set.

Another big run in the middle of the set gave Covenant a commanding lead in the second as it cruised to a 2-0 lead. Leading by three (10-7), the Scots scored 10 of the next 13 points to build a double-digit lead. Kalbfleisch finished off the set with a pair of kills.

Covenant had 12 kills in the third set and never trailed to complete the sweep.

Johnson added nine kills and Riley Howe had five for Covenant. Anna Baldwin had a match-high 21 digs.

The Scots limited Piedmont to a .036 hitting percentage and held a 45-25 advantage in total kills. 

Piedmont's Brianna King had six kills and Jennifer Herrera had 11 assists.

MATCH TWO: Covenant 3, Piedmont 1

Bailey had 11 kills and Kalbfleisch had 12 as Covenant won the final two sets to take a four-set (25-15, 19-25, 25-19, 25-12) and complete a doubleheader sweep.

Covenant cruised to a first set win as the Scots tallied 18 kills as a team and hit .412. Piedmont (4-7) answered in the second to win its first set of the day and even the score at 1-1.

The Scots trailed 9-7 early in the third, but scored five straight as Kalbfleisch recorded kills on three straight rallies to give Covenant the lead for good. In the fourth, Covenant jumped out to a 16-4 lead and eased to a set win and a match victory.

Barlett had another double-double as she recorded 38 assists and 15 digs. Grace Logterman had nine kills and six total blocks, while Johnson had eight kills and 11 digs. 

Jaclyn Sampson had 10 kills to lead the host Lions.
