Women's Soccer Draws with Piedmont in Double OT

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- The Covenant women's soccer team had its first tie of the season so far in its Senior Day contest against Piedmont.

The first half resulted in little action, as Covenant only had three total shots compared to just five from the visiting Lions.

Entering the second period tied 0-0, Piedmont struck first, as a goal by Sarah Fisher in the 53rd minute put the Lions up 1-0.

Very shortly after in the 55th minute, the Scots answered with a goal of their own. The tying goal came from Paige Simons Pettit, assisted by Kailey Burrell. The goal is the fifth of the season for Pettit, who has scored five goals in the last three contests.

The Lions recorded 15 shots in the second half, outshooting the Scots by 10. Though, both teams could not score again, resulting in a 1-1 score at the end of regulation.

During the first overtime period, Piedmont took four shots compared to Covenant's single shot. And having no score after the first overtime, the game headed for a second.

The second overtime was a similar story, as the Lions would get off two shots. Though, Covenant would not record a single one, ending the game in a 1-1 draw.

The Scots had nine total shots for the contest. Simons Pettit led with three shots, while Burrell and Leah Marr both had two.

Lucy Sandhoff played all 90 minutes in the goalie box for the Scots and earned nine saves on 10 shots on goal.

Piedmont recorded 26 total shots and was led by Kaylee King who took seven. Fisher took three shots. Miranda McNalley started at goalie for the Lions and played the entire contest, earning two saves on three shots on goal.

The tie makes the Scots 3-3-1 in conference play, while Piedmont is 5-1-1.
