SEWANEE, Tenn. -- The Covenant baseball team fell on the road at Sewanee Friday afternoon, 2-0. The loss breaks a three-game winning streak for the Scots and gives the Tigers their first win of the season (1-0).
In their first competition so far, Sewanee completed a team no-hitter against the visiting Scots. It is only the second time this season Covenant has been held scoreless, as they have averaged 11.6 runs over the last three contests.
Thanks to walks and stolen bases, the Scots had runners on base and opportunities to score in five of the nine innings. Though the hot pitching from Sewanee stopped Covenant from capitalizing on any of the scoring opportunities.
Jake Pendergraft started on the mound for the Tigers, pitching three innings and recording five strikeouts. Logan Martin came into the game in the top of the fourth and pitched the remainder of the game. Martin had nine strikeouts during his six innings pitched.
The Tigers scored their two runs off of six hits. Jake Woolard went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Braxton Swanson went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
For Covenant, Adam Carver pitched seven innings, only allowing five hits and striking out seven.
The Scots fall to 9-6 overall.
