LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- Megan Rouse grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds in the Covenant women's basketball team's 84-32 victory over Wesleyan. The win makes it 13 in a row over the Wolves.
Over the last two games, the Scots have averaged 77 points per game and a margin of victory of 40 points.
On top of her 16 rebounds, Rouse scored 11 points and had three blocks. Cosette Kirsch led Covenant in scoring with her double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Kirsch also recorded five assists and five steals.
Three more Scots scored in double figures. Ruthie Moore scored 15 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out five assists. Madison Blevins added 16 points, while Destiny Mergilles scored 10 points and tallied four blocks.
To begin the contest, Covenant jumped out to a quick 12-0 lead. The Scots held the Wolves to only two baskets in the whole first quarter: a layup at the 4:54 mark and a 3-pointer with nine seconds to go in the period.
The second quarter was a similar story, as Wesleyan would again only score five points. Covenant began the period on a 7-0 run, and held the Wolves to just two baskets once again. The first half ended with a score of 50-10 in favor of Covenant.
After a pretty even third quarter, the Scots entered the fourth quarter up by 40 (61-21) and refused to turn down the pressure. During the final 10 minutes, Covenant scored 23 points and hit three 3-pointers, sealing the Scots' victory.
Covenant shot 40.7 percent (33-of-81) from the floor and knocked down nine from 3-point land. The Scots' defense forced 25 turnovers and scored 30 points off of them.
Jamila Ra-Hashim led Wesleyan with eight points and seven rebounds. Ahnila Owens added seven points.
Heading into their final regular season game tomorrow, the Scots improve to 6-7 in the USA South and 7-14 overall. The Wolves fall to 2-9 in conference play (2-9 overall).
