LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- The Covenant women's basketball team finished out its regular season with a 92-45 win over Wesleyan Saturday afternoon. The victory finishes out the Scots' USA South play at an even 7-7 record.
Covenant ends the regular season winning seven of their last eight games and averaging over 85 points per game in the wins. The victory over the Wolves gives the Scots a three-game winning streak and brings their average margin of victory over the last three games to 42 points.
Five Scots scored in double figures. Megan Rouse led all scorers with her career-high double-double of 20 points and 15 rebounds. Over the Wesleyan series, the freshman from Cleveland, Tennessee has averaged a double-double of 15.5 points per game and 15.5 rebounds per game.
Cosette Kirsch knocked down five 3-pointers and added 18 points and five steals. Destiny Mergilles continued her stellar play with 17 points and eight rebounds. Ruthie Moore earned herself a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Madison Blevins also scored 11.
The visiting Wolves held within five points of the Scots for about the first five minutes of the contest. But Covenant would end the period on a 14-7 run, putting them up by 11 points headed into the second quarter (30-19).
From there, the Scots held Wesleyan to just 24 points for the rest of the game. The Wolves never scored above nine points in a quarter after the first. Covenant's defense also forced 21 turnovers, which led to 28 points for the Scots.
Covenant shot 45.7 percent from the floor (32-of-70) and knocked down 10 from 3-point land, seven of which came in the first half.
Jamila Ra-Hashim led Wesleyan with 16 points and four 3-pointers. Kelsey Houpt added 12 points and 13 rebounds.
The Scots finish the regular season with a record of 8-14. Wesleyan falls to 2-10 overall.
