LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Will Crumly tied the game with a 3-pointer with 19.2 seconds left, but Maryville's Myles Rasnick hit a jumper with 0.3 seconds left to lift the visiting Scots to a 64-62 win over the Covenant men's basketball team on Saturday afternoon.
It was Senior Day for Covenant as the Scots honored Zack Allen. Allen has played in two stints with the Scots, first as a freshman in 2016-17 and the returned to Covenant last year as a junior. Allen had seven points and four assists on Saturday.
Covenant (7-8, 3-5 USA South) led by 13 in the first half and took a 38-27 lead into halftime. The host Scots shot 51.9 percent (14-of-27) from the field in the opening half as Promise Igbanu and Will Crumly had 12 points each in the period.
The lead was still in double figures (53-43) for Covenant with 11:22 left before Maryville chipped away at the margin. Consecutive 3-pointers from Nicholas Clifton and Jekobe Coleman made it a four-point Covenant lead and a conventional three-point play from Clifton gave Maryville a 60-58 lead with 5:18 left.
Both defenses clamped down over the final minutes. Down 62-59, Covenant got a defensive stop and then Crumly hit a game-tying 3-pointer with 19.2 seconds left. On Maryville's ensuing possession, Rasnick drained a turnaround jumper with 0.3 seconds left.
Covenant's inbounds pass was batted away as time expired.
