BREVARD, N.C. -- The Covenant men's basketball team picked up its eighth win on the season in its 89-61 victory over Brevard. The triumph breaks a five game losing streak and gives the Scots their fourth USA South win (4-5).
Four Scots scored in double figures. Chris Barnette led the way with 15 points. Will Crumly added 13 points and six rebounds. Freshman Gage Maffetone set a new career high with his 12 points, and Brady Palmer had 11.
The contest was Covenant's from the start, as they jumped out to a quick 10-3 lead off of a 3-pointer from Barnette at the 16:35 mark. The visiting Scots were hot from behind the arc, knocking down seven in the first half.
Covenant would end the first half on a 12-2 run against the Tornados, extending the lead to 26 points (45-19).
The Scots' continued their hot shooting into the second half by starting it with a 12-4 run. Covenant's largest lead of the game came from a Maffetone jump shot at the 14:12 mark of the second period, making it 57-23.
It was all Covenant from there, as the team would finish the night on 32-of-54 shooting (59.3 percent) with 10 3-pointers (10-of-18 at 55.6 percent). The Scots also added 32 points off of Brevard turnovers.
Ladji Samoura led the host Tornados with 11 points. David Sealy added 10.
Covenant improves to 8-8 overall, while Brevard drops to 0-5.
