MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- The Covenant women's basketball team beat Huntingdon on the road Saturday afternoon, 70-42. The 28 point margin of victory is the largest the Scots have ever had over the Hawks. 

The Scots were led by Destiny Mergilles, who scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. It is her eighth double-double on the year. Over the last three games, the Deerfield, Florida freshman has averaged a double-double of 17 points per game and 11 rebounds per game.

Sophomores Ruthie Moore and Cosette Kirsch both added 14 points, and Elissa Moore scored 11. 

Covenant held Huntingdon to just 18 points through the first three quarters. The host Hawks greatly struggled on the offensive end, shooting just 14 percent (7-of-49) from the floor for the first 30 minutes of play.

The visiting Scots entered the fourth quarter on the winning side of the scoreboard, 54-18. Though Huntingdon would try to rally and shoot over 56 percent from the floor, it was too late as Covenant ran away with the victory.

The Scots shot 48.2 percent from the floor and 37.5 percent from 3-point land. Covenant knocked down nine threes, four of which came from Kirsch. 

The Hawks were held to shooting just over 24 percent from the floor and 17.9 percent from behind the arc.

Destiny Cross scored 10 points for Huntingdon and Ry Whetstone added nine.

Covenant improves to 5-7 in USA South play (6-14 overall), and Huntingdon drops to 5-7.

Covenant will return home to play their last USA South opponent, Wesleyan. Tip-off is scheduled for 6pm EST on Friday, February 26.
