MACON, Ga. -- Three Covenant women's basketball players scored in double figures and the Scots put up a season-high in points in an 83-36 win at Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon in USA South action.
Destiny Mergilles had 15 points and eight rebounds to lead Covenant (4-1, 1-0 USA South), while
Ruthie Moore had 10 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.
Megan Rouse came off the bench to score 13 points with seven rebounds.
Cosette Kirsch had eight points and eight rebounds and
Breezy Savage scored nine points in the fourth quarter.
Covenant never trailed in the contest and won every quarter. The Scots took a 19-7 lead at the end of the first period as Kirsch scored six points. Covenant extended the lead to 35-14 at the half.
In the second half, the Scots outscored Wesleyan (0-4, 0-1 USA South) 48-22 as the visitors coasted to the USA South-opening victory.
Covenant shot 41.9 percent (31-of-74) from the field and 19-of-30 at the foul line. The Scots outrebounded the host Wolves 59-32 and had 22 second-chance points in the victory.
Karis McIntosh added seven points, while
Jae Woods and
Abby Witt had five points apiece. Witt also collected six rebounds.
Wesleyan was led by Kelsey Houpt's 10 points and seven rebounds. The Wolves connected on just 24.1 percent (13-of-54) from the field.
