Women's Hoops Cruises Past Agnes Scott

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN --  Cosette Kirsch scored a game-high 20 points and the Covenant women's basketball team never trailed in an 82-35 win over Agnes Scott in USA South action inside Barnes PE Center on Tuesday night.

Covenant (5-1, 2-0 USA South) is off to its best start since 2012-13 and it is the first 2-0 start to conference play for the Scots since joining the USA South.

The Scots jumped out to a 19-0 lead in the first six-plus minutes of the game and never looked back. Covenant led 50-14 at the half as the Scots hit seven 3-pointers in the opening periods and had 10 second-chance points.

Kirsch led the way with her 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting and four 3-pointers. Karis McIntosh scored five points in the opening stretch and had 10 points in the game. Ruthie Moore totaled eight points, eight rebounds, and four assists while Madison Blevins had nine points. 

Covenant had 10 blocks in the game, led by Destiny Mergilles' five. Mergilles also had eight points, eight rebounds, and five assists on the night.

The Scots shot 46.6 percent (34-of-73) from the field with a season-high nine 3-pointers and 23 assists.

After taking a 28-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Scots extended the lead to 41 late in the second period before going into the break with a 36-point lead (50-14). Covenant built its largest lead of the night at 53 (77-24) after a Kirsch layup with 7:20 remaining.

Abby Witt added six points, Megan Rouse and Ryleigh Hoover had five each, and Sydney Jones four off the bench. Covenant had 35 points off its bench as all 15 dressed players saw action.

Agnes Scott (0-5, 0-2 USA South) was led by Shay Sweat's eight points. The Scotties were held to 25.9 percent (14-of-54) from the field.

UP NEXT

Covenant will return to USA South action on Dec. 4 at Maryville. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
