LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's basketball team will open its season on Saturday with an exhibition at Division I foes Mercer on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.

The game is an exhibition contest for Covenant in its first competition of the 2020-21 season. Mercer will count the game as a regular season contest.

SEASON STORYLINES

• Covenant is coming off a 10-16 season (7-9 USA South) and a fourth straight appearance in the USA South Tournament.
• The Scots return four starters, including All-USA South West Division first team selection in senior forward Hannah Monday.
• Monday led Covenant in scoring last year with 12.8 points per game and was the Scots' top rebounder at 7.7 per contest. She had three straight double-doubles to end the season (and had six for the year) and earned USA South Player of the Week during that stretch.
• Sophomores Ruthie Moore, Cosette Kirsch, and Elissa Moore also return as starters. Ruthie Moore was a stat-stuffing machine in her freshman year as she averaged 11.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, and was fourth in the USA South with 4.2 assists per game. Kirsch was fourth on the team in scoring at 9.2 points per game, while Elissa Moore was a top defender.
• Covenant features 20 players on the roster, with 18 of those either freshmen or sophomores as the Scots have just one junior and one senior on the team. Head coach Skylar Bareford's squad has 14 newcomers.
