Volleyball Completes Perfect Run Through USA South

BEREA, Ky. -- The Covenant volleyball team completed a perfect run through the USA South as the Lady Scots defeated Berea 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-20) on Tuesday night inside the Seabury Center.

Covenant (19-7, 12-0 USA South) won its final regular season match within the USA South in dominating fashion once again. The Lady Scots only dropped six sets in league play to record the second perfect conference record for the program in the last six seasons. Covenant also went undefeated (10-0) inside the Great South Athletic Conference in 2012.

Allie Jakes had nine kills and registered a .615 hitting percentage, while Ginny Moore also had nine kills and a team-best seven service aces. Alexa Spurling added eight kills and Hannah Harris six. Schuyler Moore totaled 35 assists and nine digs. Reigning USA South Defensive Player of the Week, Emily Moore led Covenant with 10 digs.

As a team, Covenant produced season-highs in both hitting percentage (.326) and aces (16). Jessica Seehorn tallied four aces and Emily Moore posted three.

Covenant set the pace early with 15 kills and a .429 hitting percentage in the first set en route to a 25-15 win. The Lady Scots used a 10-0 run, capped by a Ginny Moore kill, to break open the game and take a 17-5 lead. The margin grew to 20-6 before a Seehorn kill ended the frame, giving Covenant a 1-0 match lead.

The second set was tight through the first 12 points, but another monster run left the host Mountaineers in the dust. Covenant rattled off 14 consecutive points, featuring three Spurling kills and five Ginny Moore aces, to go ahead 20-6 before cruising to the set win.

The third set was the tightest of the three, but Covenant held Berea at a distance throughout. The Lady Scots took the lead for good at 5-4 after a Ginny Moore kill, and then held a 3-5 point edge the rest of the way before a Berea attack error gave Covenant the match.

Isis Hill led Berea (3-19, 0-10 USA South) with 10 kills and Destiney Balser had 23 assists. Bailie Parker had a match-high 12 digs.
