Volleyball Extends Streak to a Dozen with 3-1 Win over Sewanee

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- It's an even dozen for the Covenant volleyball team. The Lady Scots extended their program-record win streak to 12 on Thursday night with a 3-1 (25-15, 25-17, 20-25, 25-20) victory over Sewanee in non-conference action at Barnes PE Center.

The win also gave Covenant (20-7) its 20th of the year, marking the fifth time in the last seven seasons that the program has reached at least 20 victories. The Lady Scots also improved to 9-0 at home with the win. The 12th win in a row has also helped Covenant's region ranking as the Lady Scots moved up to No. 7 in the latest NCAA region poll, announced on Wednesday.

Ginny Moore produced a double-double with 14 kills and 14 digs, while Hannah Harris had 10 kills, five digs and five total blocks. Jessica Seehorn added seven kills, three block assists and 12 digs and Chloe Storm totaled six kills and a pair of blocks. Allie Jakes led Covenant with nine block assists to go along with four kills.

Emily Moore registered 25 digs to lead the back row, while Schuyler Moore had 34 assists, 11 digs, five kills, and three aces.

Covenant controlled the first two sets and built a 2-0 match lead. The Lady Scots had 15 kills in the first game and then 12 more in the second, while limiting the Sewanee attack to just a .014 hitting percentage through the first two games.

In the first set, Covenant took a 5-4 lead early on and never trailed again in the game. The lead grew to 19-13 after a Ginny Moore kill and then Covenant scored the final five points, ending with a Seehorn kill, to take the set. In the second, Covenant again took an early lead and would never relinquish it. The margin extended to 10 at 15-5 after another quick 5-0 run by the Lady Scots. The lead would get as big as 12 before Covenant cruised to the set win and a commanding match lead.

Sewanee bounced back in the third and jumped out to a 9-2 advantage before pulling away from Covenant late in the set to keep the match alive. But the fourth set followed the pattern of the first two as a solid defensive effort led to Sewanee making 12 attack errors and the Lady Scots took advantage and kept the visiting Tigers at a distance for most of the game to seal the win.

As a team, Covenant out-dug Sewanee 76-71 and also recorded 12 team blocks. The Lady Scots hit only .119 on the night, but Sewanee had a tough time getting anything going consistently on the attack while hitting just .006 with 36 errors.

Destiny Stewart led Sewanee (12-13) with 15 kills and 17 digs. Claire Crowe had 19 assists and 13 digs, while Olivia Nichols also had 17 digs in the loss.
