No. 10 Berry Blanks Lady Scots in Softball Doubleheader

ROME, Ga. -- The Covenant softball team dropped a pair of games at No. 10-ranked Berry on Tuesday evening in non-conference action. Berry took game one 10-0 in five innings and the nightcap 8-0 also in five innings.

Covenant drops to 17-20-1 on the year, while Berry, ranked No. 10 in the latest NFCA Top 25, goes to 29-6 on the year. It was the second time this year Covenant has played a nationally-ranked opponent on the road (Birmingham Southern on April 5).

The Lady Scots managed one hit in the first game off Berry pitchers Kassie Howard and Allie Coronado. Joni Johnson supplied the lone hit for Covenant and Madison Quirk drew a walk. Cris Gant (6-7) took the loss in the opener.

Berry scored two runs in the first, three in the second and five more in the third to open the game up. Sarah Moore and Katlin Seger had three RBIs apiece for the host Vikings in the game one victory. Seger and Elisabeth Federici had two hits each.

In game two, Kasey Hart, Morgan Lane and reigning USA South Player of the Week Shannon Schmitt each had a hit apiece. Carsyn Stone (4-3) gets the loss as she allowed three earned runs over four innings of work.

Howard (21-2) picked up the pitching win in the second game as well as she threw four innings allowing three hits. Moore went 2-for-4 with four RBIs to lead Berry. The Vikings scored three in the first, two in the second and three more in the fourth for the final margin.
