Volleyball Caps Road Trip with Sweep of Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Ginny Moore registered a double-double with 13 kills and 14 digs to lead the Covenant volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-16) victory at Huntingdon in USA South action on Thursday night at Roland Arena.

The win caps a 19-match road trip for Covenant (10-9, 7-2 USA South) to begin the season. It is also the Lady Scots' fourth straight sweep of a USA South opponent.

Moore collected her 10th double-double with her 13-kill, 14-dig effort and had a season-best .393 hitting percentage. Schuyler Moore also tallied a double-double, her 12th of the year, with 27 assists and 15 digs.

Covenant pulled away from Huntingdon in the first set scoring 11 of the final 14 points to break a 14-14 tie and take the set win. Ginny Moore had two kills during that stretch, while Lindsey Stephens added one of her own.

In the second set, the Lady Scots never trailed and led by as many as seven after Stephens and Haley Taylor recorded kills to make it 19-12. Covenant had 15 kills in the frame and capped the set win with another kill from Ginny Moore.

It was more of the same in the third set as the early points were close before Covenant asserted its dominance and pulled away midway through the set. Up 12-10, the Lady Scots scored six straight, capped by a block from Allie Jakes, to build a comfortable lead at 18-10 and cruise to the sweep.

Taylor added six kills, four digs and two total blocks in the win for Covenant, while Stephens and Morgan Opgenorth had five kills apiece. Jakes tallied four total blocks (two solo and two assisted) and Hannah Stewart added 12 digs on the defensive end.

As a team, Covenant held a 36-25 edge in kills with nine blocks.

Huntingdon (6-17, 2-7 USA South) was led by Alexis Creasman's eight kills and 20 assists from Devyn Stringer. Audrianna Hargitt had 15 digs and five kills for the Hawks.
