Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Williams' Career-High 28 Not Enough in Women's Hoops Loss

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Aleigha Williams scored a career-high 28 points, but the Covenant women's basketball team could not overcome visiting Greensboro in a 60-55 loss inside Barnes PE Center on Friday evening.

Williams went 7-for-15 from the field with four 3-pointers and 10-for-12 at the free throw line in her 28-point effort. The junior guard also grabbed seven rebounds and collected three steals.

Covenant (5-10, 3-5 USA South) took its only lead of the game at 6-4 midway through the first period after Bekah Walter connected on two straight jumpers. The Scots fell cold from the field the rest of the period as Greensboro took a 15-6 lead. The Scots outscored the visiting Pride 21-18 in the second to draw within 33-27 at halftime.

Greensboro extended its lead to double digits early in the third period, but Covenant slowly whittled away at its deficit. The Scots got to within five at 52-47 after a Williams 3-pointer with 8:01 left in the fourth, but that was as close as Covenant would get until Williams rolled in a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the final margin.

Greensboro (10-6, 6-1 USA South) was led by Marla Crawford's 13 points, six rebounds and four assists. Alexis Hite added 11 points, while the Pride shot 43.4 percent (23-of-53) from the field and held a 40-36 rebounding edge.

Williams was the only Covenant player in double figure scoring. Rachel Price had a team-high eight rebounds to go with four points and Joanna Smith added four points and six rebounds. Alex Quimby came off the bench to tally five points and four boards. Covenant managed just 30.4 percent (17-of-56) shooting from the field, but did make seven 3-pointers.
