LAGRANGE, Ga.-- The Covenant women's basketball team saw their season come to an end Saturday as they lost to LaGrange 78-49.

It was a tough year for the Scots, who went 3-22 on the year, and 2-14 in USA South Conference play. LaGrange (16-9, 11-5 USA South) will move on to play in the conference tournament next week.

In the first half, the Panthers jumped out to an 11-2 lead within the first five minutes, hitting five of their first seven shots in the process.

Down nine, the Scots traded baskets with LaGrange until Haley Soles buried a 3-pointer to draw Covenant within six at 18-12. It was the closest they would get all night, however, as the Panthers responded with a 10-4 run to take a 28-16 lead. LaGrange went into halftime up 38-25.

In the second half, LaGrange led by as many as 33 as the Scots struggled to get shots as they were outrebounded 21-9 in the second half and 44-28 for the game. The rebound discrepancy also included a 15-8 advantage for the Panthers in offensive rebounds.

LaGrange's inside presence also allowed them to score 50 points in the paint.

The Scots were led in scoring by the 12 of Soles, who hit four 3-pointers. Liz Dougherty finished with 11 points on 3-of-5 shooting with a team-high four assists. Jessica Bell chipped in 8 points and five rebounds off the bench.

The Panthers got 16 points each from Shaye Butler and Lauren Johnson on a combined 13-of-21 shooting. Butler also had six rebounds, while Johnson had four assists. Kelsey Mitchell dished out seven assists to go with six points.
