CARY, N.C. -- The Covenant men's soccer team rallied from a halftime deficit and capped the comeback with a Mike Arango game-winner in the seventh minute of overtime to lift the Scots to a 2-1 win at William Peace on Saturday.

The victory is the second straight for Covenant and moves the Scots to 5-9-2 overall and 4-3-2 inside the USA South. William Peace falls to 2-15 on the year and 2-7 in conference.

Arango played a role in both goals for Covenant. Trailing 1-0 nearing the midway point of the second half, Arango fed Carl Simakoff with a pass and Simakoff placed his shot into the back of the net to knot the score in the 64th minute. It was Simakoff's first career score.

After neither team could take the lead in the remaining time in regulation, Covenant dominated the opening minutes of overtime. Arango took two shots within the first two minutes of the overtime session before scoring the game-winner in the 97th minute. Off a Russell Harrison free kick, Arango headed the ball in from a few yards out to give Covenant a 2-1 victory. The goal was Arango's third of the year.

Covenant held a 16-12 shot advantage. with Arango taking seven of those attempts. 

William Peace struck first in the 26th minute on Enrique Ochoa's goal, assisted by Luis Reyes-Gomez.

Covenant keeper Daniel Kubin made one save on the night, while Tanielu Riley collected five for the host Pacers.

UP NEXT

Covenant will host USA South rival Maryville on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Scotland Yard. Senior Night activities will take place before the match.
