FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Covenant women's basketball team suffered from a tough second half shooting performance as they fell to Methodist 61-39 in USA South play on Friday night inside the Riddle Center in Fayetteville.
Haley Soles led Covenant (0-11, 0-3 USA South) with 17 points and five 3-pointers. Morgan Woodward added seven points, while Rachel Price had four points, five rebounds and five steals in the loss.
Methodist gets its first victory of the season to move to 1-8 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The host Monarchs had six players score, including five in double figures led by 14 apiece from Julisia Campbell and Ayanna Pegues.
Covenant closed its gap in the first half to 26-19 after five quick points from Soles (3-pointer) and Clara Dirkse. But Methodist ended the half with a 34-25 lead. Covenant shot 20 percent in the second half as the Monarchs pulled away for the victory.
Covenant shot 24.5 percent (13-of-53) for the game, while Methodist connected on 36.4 percent (24-of-66). The Monarchs held a 52-31 rebounding advantage.
The Scots will be back in action on Saturday evening at Greensboro. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
