CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Playing down the mountain in Chattanooga because of wet conditions at Scotland Yard, the Covenant women's soccer team made themselves right at home on the campus of Chattanooga Christian School by taking down Huntingdon 6-0 on Wednesday night.
With the win, the Lady Scots moved to 7-8-1 on the season, and 5-3 in conference play. Huntingdon falls to 2-12 on the year and 1-7 in the USA South.
Covenant jumped out to an early lead scoring twice in the first three minutes of the match. Anna Porch scored in the second minute, her 11th goal of the season, and Ruth Terry added a goal in the third minute as the Lady Scots built a quick 2-0 lead. Bethany Logan provided assists on both scores.
Another goal by Terry in the 16th minute and one by Logan in the 20th minute made it 4-0 heading into halftime. The goals for Terry were her second and third of the season.
The second period started much like the first, with another goal in the early in the frame, as Logan found the back of the net for the second time just 48 seconds in the period. Logan has seven goals on the year.
Anne Charlotte Strawbridge closed out the scoring and made it 6-0 when she notched a goal in the 53rd minute on a header off a corner kick from Natalie Smith. The goal for Strawbridge was her second of the season.
Lady Scots keeper Lucy Johnson got the win and the shutout as Covenant outshot the Hawks 23-1. Huntingdon employed two keepers, each of whom played one half. Brittany Houseman started and made five saves while allowing four goals. Katie Bonner played the second half, allowing goals on two of the four shots that were directed at her.
