SEWANEE, Tenn. -- The Covenant volleyball team traveled to Sewanee for their first road match of the season on Tuesday evening. A much improved Sewanee team defeated the Lady Scots 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 28-26).
Covenant drops to 2-1 on the season while Sewanee improves to 6-0.
Chelsea VanDyk registered 15 kills and just four attack errors, Stephanie Kirkpatrick had 20 assists and 10 digs, while Estes Carlson tallied 25 digs. Anna Swain added 10 digs and Cora Schroeder chipped in nine of her own to go along with four kills.
Sewanee led throughout the first set as they cruised to a 25-20 win. In the second set, Covenant took an early lead, but Sewanee responded by going on a 16-4 scoring run to go ahead 17-6. The Lady Scots got to within three points at 20-17, but could not complete the comeback.
The third set went back-and-forth. Covenant took a 24-23 but again Sewanee had an answer as they scored five of the next seven points to claim the set and match victory.
Kayla Sewell notched 10 kills while Walker Buxton and Rachel Schuman had 12 and 11 assists, respectively.
Covenant will travel to Nashville this weekend to take part in the Scott Jones Classic hosted by Trevecca Nazarene. The Lady Scots will play Martin Methodist on Friday followed by Siena Heights and Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday.
