Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Harrison's Goal Not Enough as Men's Soccer Falls at Oglethorpe

ATLANTA, Ga. -- On a rain-drenched Wednesday afternoon in the Georgia state capitol, the Covenant men's soccer team was defeated by host Oglethorpe 3-1 in non-conference action. The Scots, who entered the NSCAA region rankings on Tuesday, drop to 5-3-2 on the year. Oglethorpe improves to 4-2-1.

Field conditions played a factor as rain swept through the southeast. The match had to be moved to another field with an artificial playing surface on the Oglethorpe campus.

Trailing 3-0 early in the second half, the Scots got on the board with a goal from junior Hunter Harrison, his second of the season. Harrison was able to head the ball past Oglethorpe keeper Vaughn Moore off a throw-in from junior Roy Anderson. The assist was Anderson's first of the season.

Although Covenant would take plenty of shots, 15 of them to be exact, the Scots would not be able to trim their deficit any further.

Oglethorpe scored in the 18th minute with a goal from Nick Muntean to put the Petrels ahead 1-0. The hosts would extend their lead to 2-0 before halftime in the 37th minute when Nick Williamson headed in a ball towards teh back post.

In the early moments of the second period, the Petrels added another tally this time off the head of Alex Tanjga to make it 3-0.

Oglethorpe outshot the Scots 21-15 and 9-6 in shots on goal. Covenant keeper Shuler Polk made five saves while Moore also made five for Oglethorpe. Harrison led the Scots with three shots attempted with a host of Covenant players had two each.

Covenant will head back into USA South play on Saturday with a trip to southern Georgia to take on LaGrange. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
