LAGRANGE, Ga. -- Junior Hudson Brock netted a hat trick to lead the Covenant men's soccer team to a road USA South victory 5-0 at LaGrange on Saturday afternoon. Covenant improves to 6-3-2 overall and 2-1 in league play while LaGrange drops to 2-5-1 on the season and 0-1 inside the conference.
The last Covenant player to score a hat trick before Brock on Saturday was Tyler Morrison on October 19, 2012 at Emory. The junior from Lookout Mountain had one goal on the season entering Saturday's contest.
Brock had the first goal in the opening period, assisted by Ian Meredith. Noah Wiersema then gave Covenant a 2-0 edge with his first goal of the season off another assist from Meredith. Brock would add his second goal before halftime, assisted by Joel Friesen, to give the Scots a 3-0 lead heading into the break.
In the second half, Brock continued his stellar performance with his third goal. David Huertas capped the scoring with his second score of the year with an assist from Danny Knight.
Covenant outshot LaGrange 13-4. Daniel Kubin and Shuler Polk split time at the net for the Scots. Kubin made two saves, while Polk made one.
Rival Maryville will come to Scotland Yard on Wednesday night in the battle for the Highland Cup Trophy. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. following the women's game at 5 p.m.
