No. 2 Emory Too Much For Lady Scots

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- No. 2-ranked Emory showed why it's so highly ranked on Friday afternoon as they swept a doubleheader from the Covenant softball team. Emory took game one 9-0 before claiming the second game 11-0.

Covenant falls to 2-16 on the season, while Emory goes to an impressive 34-1 overall.

Emory got five RBIs from Micah Scharff as the Eagles took game one of a doubleheader from the Covenant softball team 9-0 in six innings on Friday afternoon.

Scharff belted a three-run home run, her first of the season, to left field in the first inning to give Emory a 3-0 lead. Emory would add a run in the second, two more in the fourth, and three in the sixth for the final tally.

Covenant managed just three hits, but did draw six walks from Emory pitchers. Courtney Wagoner, Morgan Lane, and Madison Quirk each had a hit apiece.

The Lady Scots' best chance to score came in the bottom of the first as Emory starting pitcher Madeleine Lowery walked the first two hitters before being replaced. Lauren Johns then worked a two-out walk to load the bases, but Covenant could not come through. Covenant also had first and third with two outs in the sixth, but again could not find the key hit.

Cori Hilt (2-7) is hit with the loss for the Lady Scots as she allowed eight earned runs in six innings of work. Emory's Sydney Carpenter (6-0) picks up the win as she allowed three hits in six innings.
