LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Visiting Point University used three innings of three or more runs as they swept a doubleheader from Covenant. Point took game one 11-1 before winning game two by a score of 6-1 on a chilly day on Lookout Mountain.
Covenant drops to 0-4 on the season, while Point improves to 3-3 overall.
Game One: Point 11, Covenant 1
Point pulled away from the Lady Scots with an eight-run seventh inning as they claimed an 11-1 win in the first game.
Covenant starter Cori Hilt (0-1) went seven innings, striking out four, but gets the loss for the Lady Scots. Point's Jordan Edge (2-1) notches the win as she also went the distance alowing one run and striking out seven.
After Point had taken a 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Lady Scots responded with two outs in the fourth inning with a single run. Jenni Jobe doubled and was brought home on a Madison Quirk RBI single to tie the score.
Point grabbed the lead for good on a Kayla Kelosky two-run home run in fifth and the Lady Skyhawks added eight more runs in the seventh.
Jobe and Quirk each had two hits in three at-bats for Covenant, while Chandler Shepherd and Lauren Johns had a hit apiece.
Kelosky went 2-for-4 with four RBIs for Point who also got four RBIs from Amy Goodson.
Game Two: Point 6, Covenant 1
Point used three runs in the first and three more in the fourth to secure a doubleheader sweep with a 6-1 victory.
Point scored three runs on five hits off Covenant starter Grace Hooper in the first inning to grab a 3-0 lead. The Lady Scots answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the first on a single to right field, scoring Morgan Booker, from Jobe to make it 3-1.
Both pitchers settled down after the first inning. The Lady Skyhawks were able to scrape three more runs across in the fourth to take a commanding 6-1 lead.
Hooper (0-2) went four innings and gets the loss. Ellie Groenendyk came on in relief to toss three scoreless innings, surrendering just three hits in the process. Point starter Jessica Hart (1-2) is credited with the win as she went all seven innings.
Booker finished 2-for-4 with a run scored for Covenant, while Johns also had two base hits.
Covenant is back in action on Saturday with a home doubleheader against Maryville. First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
