CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Covenant softball team dropped a pair of games to Berry on Wednesday night at Frost Stadium in Chattanooga. The Lady Scots lost game one 10-0 in five innings, then 8-2 in the second game.
Covenant drops to 0-6 on the season, while Berry improves to 6-2.
Game One: Berry 10, Covenant 0
A three-run first inning and a five-run third inning propeled the Lady Vikings to a 10-0 win in game one of the doubleheader.
The Lady Scots managed just five hits off Berry starter Caillee Shamoun (3-1), who picked up her third win of the season. Cori Hilt (0-2) suffered the loss for Covenant as she threw four innings, but surrendered nine runs.
Abbey Daniels had four RBIs for Berry who also got three runs batted in from Jessica Washington.
Chandler Shepherd, Morgan Booker, Lauren Johns, Madison Quirk, and Hilt each had a base hit for the Lady Scots.
Game Two: Berry 8, Covenant 2
In game two, it was another big scoring inning for Berry that put the game away. The Lady Vikings scored six runs in the second inning as they secured the doubleheader sweep with an 8-2 win.
After falling behind 7-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, Covenant put a run across in both the fourth and fifth innings.
In the fourth, Morgan Lane walked and was pinch run for by Meagan Hess who then advanced to second on a passed ball. Booker then singled to center field with two outs scoring Hess.
The Lady Scots struck for one more in the fifth inning when Jenni Jobe singled to right field that brought home Quirk from third to cut the Berry lead to 7-2.
Courtney Wagoner and Jobe each was 2-for-4 for Covenant. Booker, Lane, and Quirk also had hits. Hannah Rogers (0-2) gets the pitching loss for Covenant. Fresh off being named GSAC Pitcher of the Week, Ellie Groenendyk came on in relief and tossed four innings while allowing just two runs on three hits.
Allison Coronado (2-1) is credited with the win for Berry as she threw two scoreless innings. Natalie Boyd gets her first save of the season.
Covenant returns to Lookout Mountain on Friday when they host Piedmont in a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
