Women's Basketball Preview: Scots Host Millsaps on Saturday

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Coming off a resounding 61-40 victory over Sewanee on Wednesday, the Covenant women's basketball team is back in action as they host Millsaps on Saturday at 2 p.m. inside Barnes Physical Education Center.

Millsaps is 2-1 on the season after dropping a tough 72-67 contest to Louisiana College on Monday night on the road… Velvet Johnson had 21 points to lead the Majors while Kala Jewel-Freeman recorded a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds… Millsaps has yet to play a home game and won't until December 18… Majors are averaging 70.7 points per game and shooting 42 percent from the field and 36 percent from 3-point land… Defensively, Millsaps is outrebounding its opponents by 10 per game and limiting teams to 56.3 points and 29.3 percent shooting from the floor.

The head coach for Millsaps is Chuck Winkelman. He is in his third year at the helm of the program.

Covenant Update: 2-1 overall, 0-0 USA South

Covenant got its second win of the season on Wednesday night by routing Sewanee 61-40 behind 14 points and seven rebounds from Alexis StorteboomAleigha Williams also added 10 points, while Kiaira Cooper had a game-high five assists… The Scots forced Sewanee into 28 turnovers that turned into 31 points…. Covenant shot 41.5 percent from the field in the win… Last weekend, Covenant secured its first program win over Berry 72-60 to open the season… Jessie Blankenship had 17 points and 11 rebounds in that win… For the season, Covenant is shooting 36.6 percent from the field, 30 percent from downtown, and 62 percent from the free throw line… Second halves have been good to the Scots this season as they have outscored their opponents 113-90 in those periods.

Sarah Harris is in her first year as the head coach of the Scots and is 2-1.
