ROME, Ga. -- Coming off an impressive victory on Friday night over Berry, the Covenant women's basketball team could not sustain the momentum as they fell to Millsaps 82-53 on Saturday afternoon to conclude the Berry College Classic.
Covenant drops to 1-1 on the season, while Millsaps moves to 2-0.
The Scots had a rough first half that saw them fall behind 20-3 early on. Covenant would be unable to get any closer the rest of the way as Millsaps kept the pressure on throughout.
Terah Hooper led Covenant with 12 points, on four 3-pointers, in a reserve role. Jessie Blankenship added seven points, three rebounds and five assists while Kate Leverette chipped in five points and four rebounds.
All available players saw playing time for Covenant. Several freshmen had solid showings including Alex Quimby (five points and two rebounds) and Rachel Price (four points and three rebounds).
Velvet Johnson led four Millsaps players in double figures with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Kala Freeman added 14 points and Kim Klunk chipped in 13 for the Majors.
Covenant will open the home portion of its schedule on Wednesday when they host Sewanee. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. inside Barnes Physical Education Center.
