Logan's Hat Trick Propels Lady Scots Over Pacers

CARY, N.C. -- Bethany Logan notched her first career hat trick and Ally Jennings scored twice to lead the Covenant women's soccer team to a 5-0 USA South victory over William Peace on Saturday afternoon.

The victory moves Covenant to 9-8-1 overall on the season and 7-3-1 in the USA South. The Lady Scots currently hold the fourth spot in the league standings, which would mean hosting a first round conference tournament game. Covenant has already clinched a berth into the conference tournament.

Meredith and Methodist are each one win behind Covenant in the standings and have two remaining conference matches, compared to one for the Lady Scots. Covenant does hold the tiebreaker over Methodist, but not over Meredith.

Logan put Covenant ahead for good with a goal in the 31st minute off an assist from Kaitlyn Winking. The Lady Scots would hold a 1-0 lead going into the halftime break.

Covenant scored often in the second period as they put the game out of reach. Logan scored again in the 61st minute after receiving a punt from keeper Lucy Johnson to make it 2-0. Jennings would add consecutive goals, with assists to Logan and Anna Porch, giving Covenant a 4-0 advantage.

Jennings' goals were the first of her collegiate career.

Logan would cap the scoring in the later in the period with her third goal of the match with an assist to Rachel Bernard. The three goals for Logan gives her nine on the season which leads the team.

Covenant will play its final regular season match at home on Wednesday against Piedmont. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Scotland Yard. Senior Night activities will take place during the night.
