Streaks Continue as Lady Scots Notch 1-0 OT Win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Goals have not come easily for the Covenant women's soccer team over the last two weeks. However, the ones they have scored have meant the most.

Bethany Logan scored the game-winning goal in the opening minute of the first overtime period to lift Covenant to its third straight 1-0 victory over USA South foe Huntingdon on Wednesday afternoon in Montgomery, Ala.

The victory was the third consecutive 1-0 decision for Covenant as the Lady Scots won by the same score over Methodist and North Carolina Wesleyan last weekend. It was also the fourth straight shutout and Covenant has not allowed an opponent to score in nearly 414 minutes of game time.

The win moves Covenant to 6-2-1 inside the conference and lets the Lady Scots keep pace with the leaders in the conference as other matches have yet to be played on Wednesday. Covenant is now 8-7-1 overall. Huntingdon drops to 3-9-1 on the season and 1-6-1 in the USA South.

After a scoreless 90 minutes of play, Covenant struck quickly in the overtime session as Logan received a pass from Mary Buys and found the back of the net in the 91st minute. The goal for Logan was her team-leading sixth of the season.

Hannah Bales recorded her second shutout, but was not required to make a save on the afternoon as Covenant outshot the host Hawks 17-3. Josie Byrd made seven saves for Huntingdon.

Logan led Covenant with four shots taken, with three coming on target. Rachel Bernard, Anna Porch, Mary Claire Roberson and Andrea Hunt took two shots apiece.

Covenant will have more than a week off from competition before facing conference preseason favorite Averett on Friday, Oct. 25 in Danville, Va. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
