LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's soccer team scored just two goals in two matches this weekend, but the Lady Scots sure made them count.
Bethany Logan scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 47th minute of play to lead Covenant to a 1-0 victory over visiting North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday evening at Scotland Yard on Homecoming weekend.
Covenant also claimed a 1-0 victory on Friday night in double-overtime against Methodist.
The win moves the Lady Scots into a tie for third in the USA South standings with a 5-2-1 conference mark and 7-7-1 overall. NC Wesleyan drops to 4-8 overall and 1-6 in league play.
After a scoreless first half, Logan notched the lone goal by converting on a perfect through ball from Rachel Buys. Logan was able to get the shot past NC Wesleyan keeper Vanessa Batchelor for her fifth goal of the season. The asssist for Buys is the first of her collegiate career.
Hannah Bales made four saves to keep the visiting Battling Bishops off the scoreboard. Lucy Johnson added one save. Covenant has not allowed a goal in 323 minutes spanning over four games. The last one allowed was on October 2 against Maryville.
Covenant outshot NC Wesleyan 12-8 and had a 7-0 edge in corner kicks. Mary Claire Roberson led the host Lady Scots with four shots attempted while Anna Porch and Logan each had two.
Covenant will hit the road on Wednesday when they travel to Montgomery, Ala., to take on Huntingdon. Start time is slated for 2 p.m. eastern time.
