LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Lady Scots basketball team finished out the regular season with a rescheduled game against the Salem College Spirits on Saturday afternoon. Margaret Cross and Terah Hooper combined to bury 10 3-pointers to help give Covenant a 65-47 win over the Spirits.
The two squads were supposed to meet back on January 28, but that game had to be called off.
The opening minutes of the first half were back and forth as Salem scored and Covenant responded. Salem's Amber Miller gave Salem its only lead of the game with a 3-pointer to make the score 7-4, but Cross answered with her first trey to tie the game.
Two free throws by Jessie Blankenship, another 3-pointer by Cross, and a layup by Morgan Woodward put Covenant up 16-10 with 11:24 left in the half. The Lady Scots took their largest lead of the half when Cross connected on a deep 3-pointer as the halftime buzzer sounded that made it 34-20.
The second half held more of the same. Salem tired quickly with only one available player on the bench. Hooper connected on three 3-pointers in the period to keep Covenant in control of the game.
Cross led Covenant (6-19, 5-11 GSAC) in scoring with game-high six 3s and 20 total points. Blankenship earned yet another double-double for the season with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Hooper trailed with 12 points coming off her four 3-pointers. Woodward contributed six points, a game-high six assists, and seven rebounds. The 10 3-pointers made is a season-high for the Lady Scots.
Salem (3-19, 0-15) was led by Miller and Racheal Salmons who each had 15 points. Zy Henderson chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds for the Spirits.
