ROME, Ga. -- The Covenant Scots ended the regular season on Tuesday night with a 63-58 win over Berry College at the Cage Center. The win for Covenant brings its record to 8-17 overall, while Berry falls to 3-22 for the season.
The two teams met earlier this season on Lookout Mountain. Covenant came out on top in that contest as well 77-74.
Covenant led by as many as nine points in the opening period. Berry's Michael Schulte connected on a jumper that gave the Vikings a quick 2-0 lead in the first minute of action, but the Scots responded with a 7-0 scoring run. Covenant would take a 27-21 lead going into the halftime break.
In the second half, Covenant extended its lead to 10 points at 55-45 with three minutes remaining. Berry sliced the Scots' lead down to 61-58, but two Covenant free throws with five seconds left sealed the win.
Jon DeVries scored 10 points for the Scots. Mac Whalen and Lake Graham added 14 points apiece for Berry.
Covenant will now await to see who its first opponent will be in the NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament scheduled for March 8-10 and hosted by Hiwassee College in Madisonville, Tenn.
