LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN – The Covenant Lady Scots played on Monday night against the University of the South (8-5) in a rematch of a game last week that did not go so well for Covenant (4-8). This time, the Lady Scots started the game off strong as the contest went back and forth in the first half. Sewanee capitalized on some great plays in the second half to pull away from the Lady Scots and win by a final score of 69-44.
As the first half came to a close, Covenant trailed 32-25. The Lady Scots held together and stayed in the game thanks to Margaret Cross' great performance. Sewanee's Dana Middleton also made things happen. After drawing several fouls, she managed 7-of-8 on free throws along with three drives to the bucket, racking up an additional six points.
The second half was controlled by Sewanee, as they almost doubled Covenant's score. Sewanee used a 27-7 run over the first 14 minutes of the second half to pull away from Covenant. The Lady Tigers led by as many as 27 points in the half.
Cross led all scorers with 21 points, and was 7-for-7 behind the arc. Jessie Blankenship earned 14 points and came up with eight rebounds as well. For the Lady Tigers, Logan Miller and Middleton both tied with 15 points.
