LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Covenant used a 17-0 scoring run over a span of 12 minutes in the second half and won their second straight game with a 42-38 victory over GSAC foe Wesleyan College Saturday afternoon. The win puts the Lady Scots at 4-7 for the year and 3-1 in conference play. Wesleyan falls to 0-6 and 0-5 in GSAC play.
Wesleyan led at halftime 23-17 and pushed their lead out to 14 points in the second half. But the Covenant defense would not allow a basket for over 12 minutes. Christine Core's 3-pointer at the 3:42 mark of the second half tied the game at 36-36 and Jessie Blankenship's pair of free-throws gave the Lady Scots a 38-36 lead with just under two minutes left.
Blankenship led the Lady Scots with 12 points and nine rebounds to go along with two blocked shots. Margaret Cross and Core each added eight points while Morgan Woodward had a team-high three assists.
Wesleyan, which had just five players dressed, was led in scoring and rebounds by Lindsay Haggerty (18 points and 10 rebounds). Erinn Williams added 10 points and four steals, while Bre'Ana Solmone had eight points, three blocked shots, and three steals.
The Lady Scots return to action on Monday with a game against Sewanee at 6 p.m. at Barnes Physical Education Center.
