LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Led by four players in double figures, the LaGrange College Panthers pulled out a victory over the Covenant Scots 77-66 on Saturday afternoon at Barnes Physical Education Center. The loss drops Covenant to 4-12 on the season and 0-2 in GSAC play. The Panthers improved to 7-10 and 2-0 in league play.

In a back and forth first half, neither team led by more than eight points. Covenant took their largest lead of the game at 24-16 after a 3-pointer by Callum Sears, his only trey of the night, at the 6:52 mark of the first half. LaGrange battled back and tied the game at 32-32 going into halftime.

In the second half, the Panthers took control of the game and led 55-47 after a layup by Joey Anderkavich. LaGrange then took advantage of a Covenant technical foul to increase their lead to 59-47 with just under 10 minutes to play.

The Scots would fight back, however. Rosbie Mutcherson banked in a 3-pointer to make it 59-52 and minutes later Joey Danek drained a short jumper that cut the Covenant deficit to 63-60 with 5:29 remaining. But Covenant was unable to get any closer than that as LaGrange would go on an 8-0 scoring run to bring the lead back to double digits at 71-60.

Bryant Engbers and Zarome Lakey each scored 11 points to lead Covenant. Engbers also added seven rebounds. Colton McGriff and Danek both scored eight points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Kyron Anderson led the Panthers with 19 points, including 9-for-10 from the free-throw line. Marcus Vaughn added 13 points while Anderkavich recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Denzel Robinson chipped in 12 points and seven boards.

Covenant will not play again until Jan. 21 when they travel to Montgomery, Alabama to take on Huntingdon College in a GSAC contest. Game time is set for 3 p.m. EST.
