MARION, Ala. -- Pitching and hitting were both in abundant supply for Covenant on Saturday afternoon as the Lady Scots swept a doubleheader from Judson College by scores of 10-0 and 11-1. With the wins, Covenant has now won six straight games and sees its record improve to 11-7 on the year.
Covenant got contributions from all over the lineup in the two games. In game one, four different Lady Scots had at least one RBI while in game two, five different players drove in runs. But the hitting star for Covenant was leadoff hitter Beth Harris. Harris went 4-for-7 with a home run and 7 RBIs in the two games combined.
On the pitching side, Chelsea Krafft continued her dominating ways in the circle as she picked up 2 wins. Krafft pitched all five innings in game one, striking out 9 Judson batters while allowing only 2 hits. Krafft then started game two and threw the first three innings, giving up just one run on 3 hits. Harris relieved Krafft in the 4th inning and pitched two no-hit innings while striking out 2, securing the win and sweep for Covenant.
Covenant scored runs in each of the first three innings of game one. Kim Cuticchia's 2-RBI single in the 1st inning gave the Lady Scots a quick 2-0 lead. They would add to that lead in the 2nd inning, scoring four more times as Harris hit a 2-run home run and Jenni Jobe knocked in a pair with a double to make it 6-0. Harris would add two more RBIs to her total in the 5th inning with a single and Christine Core concluded the scoring with a single to center that scored Harris.
In game two, Covenant did most of their damage in a 7-run 2nd inning that was highlighted by Core's first home run of the season, a 2-run shot. Lindsey Potter, Morgan Booker, and Sonja Townsend each had RBI singles while Harris added a 2-run single in the inning that saw 11 batters come to the plate.
Besides Beth Harris' outstanding day, Christine Core also went 4-for-7 on the day with 4 RBIs and 4 runs scored. Covenant racked up 21 runs on 22 hits, both were their highest doubleheader totals of the season. Meanwhile, Covenant pitching gave up just one run on 5 hits while striking out 13 Judson hitters.
Covenant will stay on the road for their next doubleheader on Tuesday, April 5 against Wesleyan College in Macon, GA. The Lady Scots will return home on Friday, April 8 with a doubleheader against Huntingdon College. Game one will start at 3:00pm.
